Surrounded by his family, Dave Wood, affectionately known as “Papa Dave”, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2017 at the age of 89.
He was born August 31, 1927, in San Bernadino, California to Dorothy and Charles “Cub” Wood.
Davis is survived by his children, Davi (Chuck) Meyers, Cubbie Clementi, Rena (Kenny) Byerly, Bryan Henry, Bethanna Henry Wood; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon Wood; brother, Gary Wood; and son, Rocky Wood.
After graduating from Lovington, NM high school, he enlisted in the Navy and was a WWII veteran. Dave spent most of his years in Hobbs, NM, where he raised his family and started a successful heating and air conditioning business. During this time, Dave enjoyed flying planes, racing cars, fishing, hunting and traveling.
Dave was an active church member who volunteered his time and labor on church projects, especially the church camp.
After selling his business, he retired to Canon City, where he loved his trips to Cripple Creek, spending time with his buddies at the shooting range and soaking in the Sun with a fine cigar.
