Obituary for Edwin Ralph "Bud" Swartz

Edwin Ralph "Bud" Swartz
Edwin Ralph “Bud” Swartz, 86, passed away on March 13, 2018. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 23, 1931, to Edwin and Clara Swartz. He attended grade school and high school in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army 1952 to 1954. After returning from the service he attended University of Illinois and for a time was equipment manager for the wheelchair basketball team. He married Margaret Ellen Blair on August 4, 1956. He was a bricklayer in Chicago, retiring in 1980. Bud was very involved in their local East Side Chicago neighborhood church. During his retirement he followed a lifelong dream and acquired his pilot’s license. He and Margaret also served in several ministries including Prison Fellowship and the Red Cross. After moving from Chicago, they lived in Brodhead, Wisconsin; Westcliffe, Colorado; German Valley, Illinois then back to Westcliffe. Bud lived his life as a testament to his relationship with Jesus Christ by memorizing scripture and studying his Bible faithfully. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; five sons, and daughters-in-laws Robert (Nancy), Timothy (Ellen), Thomas (Debora), David (Lisa Kay) and Matthew (Onalee); nineteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; sisters, Gertrude Carlson, Ruth Wilkinson and Bernice Anderson. Bud and Marge’s marriage was the great American love story. His wife was his best friend. He was a loving Christian son, husband and father who finished his race well. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” Hebrews 12:1 NLT. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, Evangelical Free Church, 3000 E. Main Street, Canon City. In lieu of flowers, please give to www.developingworkers.com (click “donate”, then “choose your designation”, then pick Matt Swartz), a ministry that trains pastors locally and globally and mobilizes medical teams to care for physical and spiritual needs of hurting people.
