Coye Darwin Stanley passed away May 28th, 2018. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always put the love and welfare of his family and friends above his own.
Coye was born in Norman, Oklahoma on March 17, 1928. From the age of two he was raised in Penrose, Colorado. He graduated from Florence High School in 1947 then enlisted in the United States Navy all at the age of seventeen. He proudly served thirty years, with tours of duty to include WWII, The Korean War, and Vietnam. During his service he was given numerous awards and decorations for his outstanding service.
Later he married his love Loretta (Williams) Stanley on July 19, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia and was happily married for 56 years. In 1952 he welcomed his first daughter Trudy (Stanley) Goforth into the world. Together they had two daughters, Monika Jordan (Stanley) and Yvonne “unknown” (Stanley).
After retiring from the Navy in 1974 as a Chief Petty Officer, he then worked for the Federal Government in finance in Lakewood, CO. In1976 he moved to be close to his family in Penrose and worked for Colorado Department of Corrections and then began the family ranch. He retired from CDOC in July of 1994.
He is survived by his sister, Hilogene(Stanley) Owens; three daughters; a seven grandchildren, Megan(Stanley), Medley Erik Swift, Sabrina Swift, Ashley Swift, Dalton Jaquez, Travis Jaquez and Breanna Jaquez; two great grandchildren, that were the light of his world, Aaron Medley and Nathan Medley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Stanley and Ida Mae (Thompson) Stanley; along with his brother, Edward Stanley.
