Condolence From: Chad Gill
Condolence: I never really knew the man known as Terry Gill, although I heard the name quite often. Who I knew quite well, however, was “Grandpa” Gill.
Anyone that ever knew my Grandpa Gill could never have a single negative comment to say about him. He was enormously kind-hearted, exceptionally good-willed, and incontestably quick-witted with a humor that only just barely matched the immense smile he always wore. Grandpa Gill would welcome anyone into his home and within minutes you would find yourself laughing with a new friend. I remember so many amazing moments that I could never list them all; from riding Hondas in the back woods of Howard, counting the ever-increasing amount of vehicle traffic on the interstate outside the old motel, shooting the bb gun at any inanimate object we could find, playing cards while watching the hummingbirds in Fairplay, to drinking a well-earned beer in the park while wearing a personalized pretzel necklace. A trip to visit Grandpa was always something I looked forward to… to laugh with him, hear one of his extraordinary stories, and watch in awe as he constructed or repaired any and everything that needed it.
The world is undoubtedly a better place with my Grandpa having been a part of it for the past 84 years and will forever be a shade dimmer without his constant presence. Of the countless lives he has touched, brightened, and warmed, I feel honored to have been able to call him Grandpa. He will forever be missed but will live on in my and others’ memories as the definitive example of a life well lived.
- Chad “Christopher” Gill
