Obituary for Madelyn Elizabeth Lowman

Madelyn Elizabeth Lowman, a longtime resident of Canon City passed quietly in her sleep, early on the morning of January 3rd.
Madelyn was born on November 1, 1927 in Rocky Ford, CO to Foley Bryce Brock and Esther Mary (Funk) Brock. A true Colorado native, she lived her entire life in or near the Arkansas Valley. A graduate of Rocky Ford High School, Madelyn worked first as a copy clerk and part time reporter for Rocky Ford Tribune and Daily Gazette, and then worked as a switch board operator for the Bell telephone system at Rocky Ford. Later, in addition to being a wife and mother, she spent 25 years as a legal secretary for several prominent attorneys in Rocky Ford.

She married Robert C. Lowman on March 28, 1952. Bob, a returning WW II Navy veteran, came to Colorado in 1950. They lived in Rocky Ford throughout the time they raised their family. Bob made a career as a Colorado State Highway Engineer. They relocated to Pueblo to be closer to his work, in 1975.
Madelyn moved to Canon City to be close to her daughter in 1993 after her husband Bob passed. She made friends easily and had many friends in many places. Madelyn loved the mountains and plains. She spent many weeks of nearly every summer in Creede, CO with family. She loved to go for drives in the Front Range and Wet Mountain Valley and look at the scenery.
Madelyn enjoyed music and theater and often attended community concerts, high school concerts and theater productions in Canon City. She was a strong supporter of the Canon City High School Tiger Boosters and a longtime supporter of the Koshare Museum and Boy Scout youth program in La Junta.

She is survived by her son, W. Brock (Deborah A.) Lowman of Topeka, KS; daughter, Susan J. (Lowman) Day of Canon City; grandchildren, Christopher Lowman – Topeka, KS, Bryce Lowman – Kansas City, MO, Carol Lowman and husband John Wickersham of Olathe, KS, Casey Day and Dorothy Day of Canon City, Nicole Gramm of Aurora; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Parker Day of Canon City, Aedyn Lowman - Topeka, KS, and Ainsley Gibb of Aurora.
Madelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Lowman on June 25, 1992; and son-in-law, Douglas F. Day on February 13, 2013; and sister, Eunice Joyce (Brock) Wilkes.
