Robert Stanley Seagroves, 78, of Westcliffe, passed away on March 12, 2024, after a brief illness. Robert
was born on September 5, 1945, to Stanley Dawson Seagroves and William Cleo Seagroves in Muleshoe,
Texas. With his height, Robert was extremely active in basketball in his high school years. After school,
he went into the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He also served in the National Guard. He
married his wife, Betty, of Childress Texas, in July of 1974. He worked as a DJ at the local radio station
KCTX when he first moved to Childress. He served as Chief of Police in Childress, owned a radio repair
shop, and then went on to work at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Roach Unit. He retired from
the prison system as a Captain. After retiring, he and Betty moved to wonderful Westcliffe, which was
his dream to live in the mountains. He loved to take in all the beauty of nature in the area and made
many friends here. Robert was always the cowboy, with his boots, Wranglers, long-sleeved denim shirts
, and cowboy hat. He was a gifted painter and leatherworker. He loved tooling leather into wallets,
purses, belts, keychains... you name it. He enjoyed painting landscapes of mountains or the plains of
Texas and New Mexico. We will treasure those always. He always had a dog to call his own… or more so
that the dog owned him! Baby Girl, the latest dog to have his heart, will miss him dearly. He is survived
by many loving individuals, including his wife Betty, daughters Shawn and Shannon, sister Gayle,
granddaughters Amber, Amanda, and Cynthia, many nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends. He
was predeceased by his father Stanley, mother Cleo, and brother Jim. Memorials will be announced at a
later time.
